Glue Laminated Timber Condition Assessments
Although our background is in the diagnosis of defects found in buildings, the same knowledge, instrumentation and techniques are used to evaluate the condition of glue laminated timber structures.
We have been fortunate enough to work on some of the most innovative glue lam structures in the U.K, pushing design and engineering to the limit.
Maintenance Inspections
Due to the durability limitations of the material when used in exposed locations, it is essential to have a robust maintenance and inspection programme in place.
Exposure Surveying Ltd undertakes condition assessments of glue laminated structures and components as part of proactive inspection programmes or as a reactive response.
We use ultrasound and microdrill, non destructive testing instrumentation to identify the early stages of decay and increment borers to take samples when laboratory testing is indicated, making cost effective recommendations for any necessary repairs.
As well as undertaking condition assessments, we can be consulted at the design stage in order to help design out any potential problem areas which we recognise from other projects.
Rope Access Assessments
Another advantage of our assessments is that they can be undertaken at height using rope access techniques, the benefit of rope access over traditional scaffolding, in addition to the financial savings, is that all equipment is removed at the end of the working day and no structure remains to aid criminal activity or vandalism.
This way of assessing awkward to access glue laminated components in swimming baths, leisure centres and other structures in busy public spaces, is fast, minimally obtrusive and cost effective.
