The building conservation Works Dept

The building conservation Works Dept is a division of Exposure Surveying Ltd (ESL), the building diagnostic consultancy.

Clients need not become frustrated in their attempts at trying to find a contractor with the necessary skills and knowledge to implement ESL recommendations.

The Works Dept, consists of a small but dedicated team of conservation craftsmen that can be commissioned to action the recommendations included within an ESL report. Timber decay and damp related building defects are resolved utilising environmental controls, sympathetic traditional materials and targeted treatments as appropriate. However, as free thinkers, we view every challenge objectively, whilst ever mindful of budgetary constraints, we produce strategies that are pragmatic and follow conservation principles.

We have a great balance of academic and practical expertise that can undertake the most challenging works on traditional and historic buildings.

We hope this service appeals to all, from the owners of a vernacular cottage to the guardians of landmark properties, no matter the size of the project.

Although much of our work focuses on older buildings, we regularly diagnose and resolve defects found in modern buildings and have a keen interest in structures that incorporate glue laminated (glulam), timber components.

To compliment our services, we provide access solutions for assessing and repairing high or awkward buildings and structures utilising rope access techniques and platforms solutions.

The Works Dept benefits from the full resources provided by Exposure Surveying Ltd, the building diagnostic consultancy.
